MY THOUGHTS

When I started researching this football team, I never expected it to turn into such a complicated task. Based on the description from Classic Football Shirts and the crest on the jersey, I initially assumed this was a straightforward shirt from Arema FC. But as I dug deeper, I quickly realised that wasn’t the case.

This shirt actually belongs to the other Arema team—the result of the infamous ‘Dualism’ conflict within Indonesian football that began in 2011. During that period, Arema FC aligned with the newly formed Super League, while Arema Indonesia remained with the existing league system. Ultimately, the Super League prevailed, and Arema Indonesia were left behind, eventually having to restart from lower divisions under a new identity.

To make matters more confusing, it turns out Classic Football Shirts even got the season and style details wrong in their listing, so their research team clearly had an off day. All of this means I still need to add an actual Arema FC shirt to my collection, which would look great displayed alongside this one for contrast and context.

As for the shirt itself, I really like the design. It’s covered in graffiti-style graphics, giving it a bold, urban aesthetic. It fits nicely with a few other similarly themed shirts in my collection and adds a bit of visual flair. Despite the confusion, I’m glad to have it—especially now that I know the deeper story behind it.
