MY THOUGHTS

I picked up this Juan Aurich football shirt fully aware that it would run a size larger than advertised. During the late 2000s, football shirts generally had a looser fit, and this one is no exception. In fact, it’s one of the oldest shirts in my collection, having been purchased 15 years after its original release in 2009.

Since then, the club has faced its fair share of struggles, which makes owning a shirt from one of their stronger periods all the more satisfying. It represents a time when Juan Aurich were competing at a higher level and had more prominence in Peruvian football.

The shirt is manufactured by Walon, a brand I now have a small but growing collection of. The material is decent for its time, though you can clearly see how far fabric technology and manufacturing methods have advanced since 2009. The design is fairly minimal—mostly white, with red piping running down the sides and along the cuffs. Clean, simple, and classic.

What makes this shirt particularly special to me is its rarity, especially in the UK. You don’t often see Juan Aurich shirts around, and this one adds a unique and underrepresented corner of South American football to my collection.
