MY THOUGHTS

As a Chelsea fan, it only feels right to add a Servette FC shirt to my collection this season. We faced them in the Conference League qualifiers—a tie that Chelsea narrowly edged, despite losing the second leg in Geneva. Since then, Servette have shown great sportsmanship, engaging warmly with Chelsea fans on social media.

Fortunately, the timing couldn't have been better: the club was celebrating its 135th anniversary and marked the occasion with a special edition shirt and presentation box. Interestingly, while the football department of Servette was officially founded in 1900, the club originally began as a rugby team back in 1890.

For this anniversary edition, they replaced their current crest with a historical one used between 1938 and 1974. However, during that earlier era, the club didn’t actually feature a crest on their shirts—so this might be the first time this emblem has appeared in a competitive match. Unfortunately, they lost the game 3–2, but the kit looked fantastic on the pitch.
In a nice touch, the shirt came sponsor-free—unusual for modern kits but fitting for the occasion. Personally, I wouldn’t have minded if the sponsor had remained, perhaps subtly matched to the shirt’s color to blend in. Still, the standout feature was the premium presentation box. Unlike many clubs that simply pack the shirt in a plain box, Servette put real thought into the experience, including a few thoughtful extras.

The shirt is limited to just 1,890 pieces—an homage to the club’s founding year—and could only be purchased directly from the club. All in all, it’s a classy release from a club that’s clearly proud of its history.
